You start your journey from Kathmandu early in the morning and embark on a lengthy drive to Dhap. The route traces a road established by the Japanese, winding through the mountainous terrain until reaching the Sun Kosi River.

Subsequently, the path follows the river for an extended duration before crossing it and ascending to Okhaldhunga. The drive from the starting point in Dhap to Okhaldhunga takes approximately three hours, revealing a well-maintained asphalt road ascending from 1560m in Okhaldhunga to 2800m in Dhap.

You reach Dhap, and your trek commences. Approaching Sigane, the landscape unfolds, revealing the prominent peaks of the Numbur Himal section within the vast Himalayan Range. Initially, the trail from Sigane aligns with a road under ongoing construction for the initial couple of hours.

The first settlement encountered is Japre (2920m), strategically perched above a deep valley, offering splendid vistas of Everest and Numbur Himal. Here, you'll find a monastery and Stupa, mark your initial pause in this trekking adventure.

You start from Japre and the path leads towards a grassy ridge located at Bhulbhule. Following Bhulbhule, the trail takes you toward Pikey Peak. Along the way, you'll pass the yak herders' dwellings and an extensive Mani stonewall.

The trail follows the contour of the hillside below Taklung Danda, through a captivating forest path adorned with numerous rhododendrons. After exiting the forest, Pikey Peak base camp is within reach, a mere 2-hour hike away.

Situated at an altitude of 3640 m, the base camp hosts a lone lodge featuring rooms in a separate building, with the dining area serving as the central communal space. A brief ascent takes you to the summit at 4065 m, yet it's advisable to plan the climb for sunrise, especially unless there's an exceptionally clear evening.

The ascent to Pikey Peak starts from the rear of the lodge with a gentle incline adorned with prayer flags that leads to the summit. Starting before daybreak is essential to reach the pinnacle in time for the mesmerizing sunrise with awe-inspiring views spanning from Annapurna to Kanchenjunga if the weather permits.

You depart from Pikey base camp; you'll pass a Mani Wall and traverse a scenic high contour route through trees, presenting captivating mountain vistas. The path meanders around the valley, descending through enchanting forests until you reach a cheese factory, signaling the onset of Ngaur, a charming hamlet atop an outcrop, albeit affected by earthquake damage.

Subsequently, the trail descends steeply through the forest to Kosinasa (also known as Lamane), where a stop for Daal Bhat is possible. Continuing along the hillside, the trail ascends slightly to Gumba, a beautiful settlement with a scattering of houses and a relatively new Gompa, though displaying signs of earthquake impact.

From Gumba, the path turns right, leading to a steep descent through the forest towards Namkheli, eventually guiding you to the river (Likhu Kola) at 1535m, culminating the day's journey at Chaulakharka, where you'll spend the night.

Today's journey begins with a 750 m climb to Bhandar, encompassing a moderately steep ascent at times, often navigating a recently developed tractor track. Notably, the preferred lodging in Bhandar is the Shobha Lodge, a brief tea break before resuming the climb towards Deurali.

As you ascend to the Deurali, pass at 3700 m, remarkable views of the valley and river stretching back to Pikey Peak unfold on the eastern side, while the quaint village of Deurali and the presence of Langtang become apparent on the western side.

You follow this, a steep initial descent is followed by a more gradual descent, leading you to Shivalaya, a sizable riverside village where you'll spend the night unless you opt to extend the journey to Thokse or Jiri and catch the bus from there the following morning.
