The TalejuBhawani is a deity of the Buddhists and the Hindus. Around the actual palace is was the Kasthamandap which is a wood house where Kumari, the living goddess, resided but it was destroyed during the April 25th, 2015 massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake. The palace is named Hanuman Dhoka which is derived from the statue of the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, Hanuman which greets you at the entrance. It has been said in the scriptures that it was built in the tenth century by the King Gunakamadev. Trekking from Gorkah to Pokhara is a route which was once frequented by adventurous travellers coming to Nepal in search of what some would consider the "Real Nepal". Family's and communities subsistence farming in beautiful valleys, and communities packed with character. There are many ways to get to Pokhara from Gorkah so in this respect you need only hike saying the Name of the town where you would like to stop that evening and the wonderfully kind locals will point you in the ... See more (most of the time) right direction. The route which I took is as follows, it averages around 25km a day of easy walking with little to moderate rise and fall of altitude. I did this route with no comprehensive map and onlya rough list of town/municipality names. Starting in Gorkah Basar I walked to Palungtar 4 Palungtar 4 to Tharkugat Tharkugat to Kuncha Kuncha to Bhorletar (Here is a bit fuzzy because I didn't have any map and just continued walking for a day in a north west direction)so let's say town X Town X to Bengas Bengas to Pokhara(last 10km is better by bus as it is a busy highway) For almost 2 weeks I didn't see another foreigner until I reached Bengas. I relied on people kindness and hospitality to keep me warm and fed at night. The Nepalese people treat guests with such honor and esteem that I truly felt safe and in no uncomfortability whilst trekking this route. Words of advice. Find a good stick (for tigers, monkeys and hiking) Learn some basic Nepales, it will really come in handy! Aim for between Oct to mid Nov, this is the season for the rice harvest, so much going on to watch while you hike. I did this route alone with little to no guidance and there are so many routes all around Nepal for us all to discover for ourselves. See less...
