This 12-day trek to Jomsom and Muktinath region is filled with the amalgamation of culture and nature. Crossing the holy Kali Gandaki River, we walk along the banks of this river, and with the beautiful Himalayas at our side, this trip is all worth the effort.
On the way, we also stopped by Ghorepani, one the most sought trekking places, which gives us a view of the beautiful mountains.
Rhododendron forests and the alpine meadows introduce us to the beauty of nature, and with many local villages we come to pass, we also get acquainted with some of the cultures this land offers.
Jomsom, known for its traditional architecture, bustling market, and unique culture, sets the stage for the journey ahead. Autumn is considered the prime season for the Jomsom-Muktinath Trek. The weather is generally stable, with mild temperatures and clear skies during this time. The mountain views are exceptionally breathtaking, and the overall visibility is excellent.
The trails are relatively dry and less prone to rainfall, ensuring a comfortable trekking experience. The autumn season also coincides with harvest time in the region, adding vibrant colors to the landscapes with golden terraced fields and lush vegetation.
The spring season is another excellent time to embark on the Jomsom-Muktinath Trek. The weather remains pleasant, with mild temperatures during the day and cooler nights. The region comes alive with blooming rhododendrons and wildflowers, painting the hillsides with vibrant colors.
The trails are generally dry and enjoyable for trekking, allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings fully. Spring also offers excellent visibility of the mountains, allowing trekkers to capture stunning photographs of the snow-capped peaks.
As you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport our representative will pick you up in a private vehicle. You will be transferred to your hotel and briefed with all the detail of the trek. Early morning, we enjoy our breakfast and take a long drive from the capital to the tourist hotspot- Pokhara. We can enjoy the trip with the beautiful hills and rivers to keep you company. As you reach Pokhara, you will again drive to Nayapul. Approximately 8 hours of drive. Breakfast included.
Here starts our journey on foot. Breakfast and we continue our journey. Through the forests and steep rocks, we pass the village of Sudami. We ascend further and reach TikheDhunga. This is our stop for the day. We rest a lodge. Approximately 5-6 hours of walk. BLD included.
We start our trek my ascending upwards through the TirkhedungaKhola. We move up a long staircase after which we reach Ulleri (2,070m) - a Magar Village. We again pass through the rhododendron forests and finally reach Ghorepani. There the beautiful view of Annapurna south (7,219m), Hiuchuli, Dhaulagiri (8,172m) andMacchapuchhre (6,993m) will be waiting for you. We spend our night at a lodge. Approximately 6 hours of walk. Descending down through the steep ridges we carry on our journey. Through Magnolia and Rhododendron to feast our eye we move downhill to Phalate (2,390m). We cross a logn suspension bridge after which we reach Tatopani- which translates to "hot water". This will be our stop for the day. We will have our spending enjoying the hot water spring. Approximately 6 hours of walk. BLD included.
We will cover the elevation of 700m this day. Moving up the Kali Ganda Gorge we trek through rocky steps. Along the way, we cross local villages of Guithe, Dana, RupseChhahara. We move along the thick forests and rocky terrains and move alongside Kali Gandakiriver. sGoing further we reach the village of Ghasa. Approximately 7 hours of walk. BLD included.
After breakfast, we continue on our path through forests and rivers. After descending the rocky steeps we reach teh village of Kaiku (2,180m). Through the LeteKhola we reach the village of Lete. Continuing downhill to the east of Kali GandakiRiver we reach Larjung village. Approximately 5 hours of trek. BLD included.
Through Largung, we walk down to Khobang. The view of the beautiful Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri will be waiting for us. Continue through and we will reach the village of Tukuche by passing through the apple farm projects. Few stretch and we will reach our destination for the day- Marpha. Here, we stay overnight at a hotel lodge. Approximately 5 hours of walk. BLD included.
This will be a short day trek. We ascend through the rocky cliffs and moving along the valley, we reach Shyang (2,800m). On the way, we also cross the PangalKhola and pass EkleBhatti- translated to lone pub. With Kali GandakiRiver at our side, we trek on and reach Kagbeni. Here, we stay for the night. Approximately 4 hours of walk. BLD included
Following the Kali GandakiRiver, we reach the check post where the guards check for the permit. We climb up to Jhong Valley and moving on we reach the village of Khingar (3,400m). Moving upwards, we reach Muktinath- home of Lord Vishnu and famous for the pilgrimage and trekkers. We roam around and enjoy the beauty of this Holy place. The 108 water sprouts is one of the main attractions here. We pay our respect to the Gods. The view of the Annapurna ranges is by your side making this is a very worthy day. We cross the meadows and streams as we move along the banks of the Kali Gandaki Gorge .Going downhill; we also cross various meadows and streams. We climb up the LubreDanda and again descend down to Lubre Village. This is Thakali village from where we can see some of the better views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. Through the Kali Gandaki bed, we reach Jomsom. Despite being small, it is famous for Marpha and Apple delicacies. There is also a museum and the strong dry winds are really fascinating. Approximately 4-5 hours of walk. BLD included.
After we take our breakfast, we board a short flight to Pokhara. After half an hour of flight, we finally reach Pokhara. We have our entire day off at Pokhara. Take the leisure time to stroll around and enjoy the beautiful Few Lake and tourist destinations. You can also visit many of the clubs and pubs and enjoy the live music. As this is the end of the journey, party all night. Approximately 30 minutes flight to Pokhara. Breakfast included.
The trek is considered moderate in terms of difficulty. It involves daily walking for several hours on mountainous terrain, and a reasonable fitness level is recommended.
You must obtain an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

ATMs are available in some of the larger towns like Jomsom and Kagbeni. However, carrying enough cash (Nepalese Rupees) is advisable as ATM services may not always be reliable or available.
