About Jamacho
Protected by the Nepalese Army, the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is home to a wide range of flora and founa. Most hikers walk the trail to enter towards the Jamacho monastery which is a pilgrimage to Buddhist. The Buddhist religion is beautifully displayed in the hill top of Nagarjun.
The Route
The entire Jamacho hike takes about 2-3 hours in a distance of 3 km. A drive from your destination to the gates of the Shivapuri National Park in the morning will begin the Jamacho hike. The Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park which was open in 2002 has been protected by the government of Nepal and sits around the army territory.
Entering the Buddhist shrine, the Jamacho monastery provides a clear view of Kathmandu city and the dominant Swayambunath Temple also called the Monkey Temple. The route then leads back to your respective destination.
The Scenery
The scnerery in the Jamacho hike includes a nature walk in Shivapuri National park. The Shivapuri forest is home to a range of more than 500 species of animals. The birds chirping sweetly along the way can certainly be a traveller’s delight.
Throughout the park you walk through a lush rhododendron forest. On a clear day you can have a clear view of the Kathmandu valley sitting below. With panoramic view of the Langtang and the Everest ranges from Jamacho, the entire hike seems to be worth it.
The Jamacho monasty provides a sense of oneness with spirituality. With statues of the divine Buddhist gods and goddesses, the Jamacho monastery is a pilgrimage to Buddhist and a home to many monks.
You will also get to observe the tiny statue of Nagarjun Buddha in Jamacho monastery. The monastery is filled with two rows of statues and the monument itself is architecturally important.
