Helambu trek is a must for people who want to enjoy the serenity of the nature in a short amount of time. Located near the Kathmandu valley, this trek allows the trekkers to enjoy the view of the Langtang range while taking them to the natural trip filled with the greenery of the hills, the tranquility of the river and the bliss of nature.
The view of the western Mountains and the Langtang Himal(6,234m) is a big part of this trek. Through the picturesque landscape and the green terrace and, trekkers can enjoy an easy walk whilst not compromising the view of nature.
Walking through the lush Rhododendron forests and alongside the silent rivers has never been so exciting. Helambu Trek is home to some of the most cultural and religion Tamang people in the world. This journey allows us to learn about their culture and way of living.
The amalgamation of culture and nature in Helambu trek is one of its strong points. The Buddhist religion which is prevalent in the region can be seen through the monasteries and various prayer flags in the areas making the trip even more enjoyable.
Regarding the difficulty, Helambu trek has been rated as an easy trek. The trekkers will occasionally find any harsh landscape that is strenuous to the body. It’s perfect for the beginner trekkers where they can enjoy the alluring nature without worrying about the stamina or endurance.
The trek to the Helambu region starts as you arrive in the cultural city of Kathmandu. Our representative will transport to the hotel after which you will be briefed about the trek. Take some rest and after a nice bath, it’s time to hit the town. Thamel is one of the best places in Kathmandu city to enjoy the restaurants and the exquisite night life. You can enjoy some of the best Nepalese cuisine as well as other delicious.
Before embarking on the trek, it’s time to visit some of the most cultural and historical places in the Kathmandu. We will start by visiting the holiest temple in Nepal for Hindu – The Pashupati. Then we move to Swoyambhunath temple which resides on the hill in the center of the valley. Boudhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Square are our other stops. All of these are enlisted in the World Heritage list. Return to the hotel and we get packing for the trek.
Early morning breakfast and we drive to Sundarijal 30 km via the Jorpati – Sundarijal road. We start trekking up hill. It’s an easy start as we move into the Shivapuri National Park. After few hours of uphill trek through the Rhododendron forest and passing few Tamabg villages we reach Chisapani. Chisapani provides an excellent view of the hills and mountains that is worth some decent photograph. 1 hour of drive. 4 hours of trek.
Today we have a pleasant walk through the meadows and occasionally uphill and downhill. Walking through the meadow and open field is an easy walk. Throughout our trek, we can enjoy the view of the majestic Langtang Lirung (6,234m) in the distance. Crossing Gul Bhanjyang we descend down to reach Kutumsang where we stay overnight. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to wander around the area and appreciate the nature. 5 hours of walk. BLD included.
Walking through the Rhododendron forest, we can listen to the birds chirping and singing in their own melody. Reaching Yurin Danda the snow-clad peaks becomes even more visible. We take some pictures and descend down to Thadepati 6 hours of walk. BLD included.
Initially, we move downhill until we reach the Melamchi river. Crossing the river, we ascend and walk through the Sherpa villages. We move through the Melamchi Gaon, there are many monasteries in the area available for the excursion. The trail is pretty much plain with occasional ups and downs. The Langtang Lirung can be seen peaking to us at a distance. Reaching Tarke Ghyang or also known as ‘Helambu’, we can enjoy the Buddhist culture in the area along with the monasteries.
The sunrise is something that we can miss. The glistening mountains in the reflection of the earlies ray of the sun is a scene worth capturing. It’s an easy descend through the meadows and Rhododendron forests. We will stop by the Gangyul for some rest. Continuing on, it's an easy downhill trek until we reach the village of Sermathang. This village is also famous for the monastery that it houses. 5 hours of walk. BLD included.
Heading down to the Melamchu Pul Bazzar, we move through some Sherpa settlements. The walk is a pleasant one, through the meadow and open terraceland. You can do some shopping at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. After that, we drive back to Kathmandu. Upon reaching the hotel, you can rest for a while and take a walk out in the city. Thamel is a perfect place for souvenir shopping to take back home. 4 hours of walk. 2 hours of drive.
It’s an end of a fabulous journey. You have witnessed some of the best landscape the country has to offer and now it’s time to bid farewell. Our representative will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport depending on the timing of your flight.
